KPMG is currently seeking an Assistant General Counsel to join our KPMG International’s (KPMGI) legal team (Assistant General Counsel in the International Office of General Counsel (IOGC) organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice on legal risks and requirements arising from the design, development and licensing of KPMGI technology solutions
  • Advise on issues related to cross-border intellectual property and data rights and technology exports, draft terms of use and product policies, and support the implementation of related processes, which will involve substantial influencing of and collaborating regularly with KPMGI professionals
  • Assess whether KPMGI has proper intellectual property and data rights to license and/or provide member firms and their clients with use and/or access rights to the KPMGI technology solutions
  • Assist in providing legal support for alliance initiatives with technology providers and the procurement of technology integrated with, or which forms the basis of KPMGI technology solutions, which will include advising on, drafting and negotiating various strategic cross-border intellectual property and technology agreements
  • Support strategic global initiatives with respect to technology, intellectual property and data licensing, including on KPMG network arrangements for the development, licensing and sharing of technology as well as global priority solutions and enterprise risk management for technology
  • Train and educate on legal risks related to technology design and development and use of data in technology solutions

Qualifications:

  • Minimum eight years of experience in the areas of intellectual property and technology law, with significant direct and/or translatable experience, advising on laws and regulations affecting the design, development and licensing of technology solutions and the processing of data by such solutions
  • Juris Doctor degree (or equivalent if gained outside of the United States) and admitted to the New York Bar with current registration in good standing (preferred) or admitted to a state bar with an ability to register as in-house counsel with the New York Bar within a reasonable period after hire
  • Strong negotiation and drafting skills across a wide variety of technology and intellectual property license agreements and transaction structures, as well as experience addressing complex legal, business and technical issues
  • Possess a working knowledge of cloud-based information technology businesses, services and products
  • Advanced communication skills to enable the translation of complex legal and regulatory issues, within the context of complex technical and business issues, into easily understandable advice
  • Understands how to balance the needs, demands and requirements of a global business with legal risks and protections; must be self-motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume legal department with many different stakeholders worldwide; an ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive environment amongst other KPMG professionals; cultural sensitivity required to engage with people at all levels and with diverse backgrounds
