KPMG is currently seeking an Assistant General Counsel, Intellectual Property (IP) to join our existing IP and Technology group within the Firm’s Office of General Counsel.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and evaluate KPMG’s intellectual assets to determine the most suitable way to safeguard them – i.e. statutory protections patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, contractual restrictions or operational protections
  • Develop and implement (with the aid of other specialists) applicable IP protections – e.g. prosecuting patents and creating trade secret protection plans
  • Manage the Firm’s IP portfolio
  • Consult with senior leaders and inventors within the firm to provide advice and guidance as to numerous IP related topics such as misappropriation, infringement, monetization, reputational enhancement and divestiture
  • Draft and assist in implementing, policies, processes and guidance to ensure that KPMG does not misappropriate third parties’ IP
  • Work with the litigation group to evaluate potential claims and enforce KPMG’s IP rights and counseling on the legal issues associated with the implementation of negotiated contractual term

Qualifications:

  • Minimum six years of recent experience counseling clients on intellectual property issues at a leading law firm and/or in-house legal department
  • J.D. or LL.M for an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in New York, Washington DC, Virginia or Pennsylvania 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with consistently high-quality work product in a fast-paced environment
  • Client-service orientation with the ability to create effective working relationships cross-functionally, including interfacing with internal and external stakeholders on legal
